The Word Free
One of the most powerful offers you can use in your advertising is the word Free. In fact it is a word that sells better than any other.
But I can hear you asking, how can I make a profit giving my products and services away without charging for them?
The reason that you can do this is the 'LVC'. This is the Life Time Value of a Client.
Let me explain how it works - Lets say you have a landscaping business, now if you get a brand new customer, they might pay on average $100 to get their Lawns Mown.
But how much is this $100 client really worth?
Most clients should continue to get their lawn mown for years and years to come.
Lets say that the average client gets his lawn mown once a month for a year, and remains a client for two years.
$100 (price per session) x 12 mows per year x 2 years. I am guessing you do not have a calculator handy, so I can tell you that the Life Time Value of The Client is $2400!
Lets just say on mowing lawns you have a profit margin of 40% this calculates to $960 profit per client.
Now lets imagine that you send a letter to a target market offering your lawn mowing service with the first mow absolutely FREE!
Lets just say the lawn mowing costs you $20 and 30 minutes of your time (which if you are not busy you would only be sitting around anyway), So effectively the $20 investment could have just made you $960 in profit!
And how easy is it to give away a free mow?
The secret lies in giving away something which has a high perceived value, but actually costs you very little to produce.
Why does this work?
The word Free in your advertising STOPS inertia. Most people are happy with their landscaper or mechanic but when they get an opportunity to trial a product or service for FREE - there's something irresistible and risk free that most people can not say no to.
WARNING!!!!! If you are going to do this make sure that you offer the highest quality service or product otherwise people will not come back. Our landscaper must make sure he does a great job when he mows that Free Lawn.
